Sorry ... I can't help it

August 10th, 2011 at 03:23 pm

I keep looking at my retiremt fund balance. Once per day. As you know, it's like looking at a yo-yo, that doesn't seem to return back to the hand each time it's dropped.

I know that there are crazy weird things happening right now, and today's balance will have little in common with the balance 6 months or 6 years from now. But, it's kind of interesting to see what I hear on the news translated directly into my own retirement fund.

I never check anymore, the guys at work are so stressed by them, its better not to.

Instead I wish I had invested in ROTH IRA's when I was younger. I've started a tiny one, but I don't think I'll save as much in the 13 years I'm counting till retirement.

I dont check. After I check I have to give myself a pep talk that I am preparing for retirment the right way and it will all work out. I try to autopilot my retirement plan.

I am thankful I am nowhere near retirement age and I'm not overly worried about things. Pageonce (phone app) was "so kind" to send me a notification that it had dropped more than 5%. Uh... more like 15%, but thanks for giving me the current amount! I can't avoid it apparently.

I'm only five years away and I'm scared.
