New to us furniture

September 11th, 2013 at 04:31 pm

DW visited her parents yesterday. Her sister and her brother both gave us some furniture. A love seat, sofa, and recliner from brother, and a (nearly brand new) recliner from her sister.

I mentioned in a post a couple weeks ago that furniture was high on our replacement list. It's not anymore.

The only draw back is that the pieces have been in storage in a building that my BIL owns. The building has an awful musty odor, and the furniture has picked it up. We got a mattress a few years back that was stored there, and picked up the same odor. So, we know that it will dissipate after a couple weeks, and a couple applications of Febreeze.

So, we have some new furniture. Actually, we're up one, because we didn't have a second recliner before.

We'll be having a bonfire with the old stuff this weekend. Trust me when I say that with four kids, our stuff has no resale value.

I can relate Bob. We have 5 boys and our used furniture also has no resale value. We make an annual trip to the dump... It's seldom worth it for us to buy new furniture because we know the kids will be hard on it. Gifted furniture is the best - good for you!

I am pleased for you. Its so wonderful when we can recycle items and put them to good use.

I have never had trouble getting rid of the most awful of furniture. BUT, that may be a "big city" perspective. Wink Nice to know someone can repurpose, however they do. (Lord knows - our old furniture could have been used for a bonfire...)

Enjoy the new furniture! (Furniture is one of those things we learned early on that everyone else was always buying and getting rid of. I've got a house filled with hand-me-downs!)

There is nothing better than a weekend, "I don't need it" fire. I once burned an entire floor of cabinets, paneling, and molding. It was a great fire.

We didn't even toast marshmallows. The sad thing was, all of the items were destroyed by moisture by the previous owner's never-may-care attitude. The stuff would have been good, but for that. Easier and cheaper to just replace it all.

there are several options on You Tube for easy to make Febreeze

Great score for needed furniture. Will it be easy to transport?
